Checklist of Things You Should Take on Your Hajj and Umrah Journey
To make your Hajj and Umrah journey comfortable, it’s always wise to go over your checklist before traveling to Mecca.

List of Items to Carry for the Hajj Pilgrimage
- Carry a Hajj guide that is easy for you to understand.
- Don’t compromise on comfortable sandals or slippers, as you’ll be walking a lot. Consider taking a spare pair.
- A small pouch to hang around your neck for important items like books, traveler’s cheques, passport, health certificate, ticket, etc.
- Since you’ll be walking a lot, bring some energy drinks or buy them in Makkah.
- Choose food wisely; select items that are light but provide high-calorie content for energy.
- Bring a spare Ihram.
- A pocket belt made from nylon or leather to wear with your Ihram.
- A prayer mat (Jae Namaz).
- Clothes appropriate for the weather conditions during your journey.
- A shawl or blanket for covering your body.
- A pillow for comfort.
- A mat or cloth to lay on the ground.
- It’s a Sunnah to carry items like a mirror, oil, comb, Miswak, sewing needle, thread, and scissors.
- A nail cutter.
- A towel.
- A pair of sunglasses (if you wear them).
- A dining mat.
- A water bottle that can be hung around your neck for easy access.
- Medicines for common issues like headaches, cold, etc. Don’t forget any personal medications with a prescription.
- A water sprayer to cool your face and body, especially in the heat of Mina and ‘Arafat.
- Essential cooking and dining utensils.
Luggage Packing Essentials
- A strong handbag for items you’ll need frequently.
- A large bag for your main luggage. Write your name, contact number, and other essential details clearly on your bag with a marker, and mark it with a visible symbol like an underscore (“_”) or a unique tag.
- Lock your bag but keep the key in the pocket of your Ihram’s belt and in your handbag as well. If you lose the key, customs in Jeddah may cut the lock off, which can be troublesome.
- Include a name tag with your contact details in your handbag.
- It’s best to use wheel-attached bags for ease of movement.
- A marker pen to label your luggage with your details.
